Kate Aversa and her son Luca at Canadian Blood Services in Windsor, Ontario on August 28, 2014.  Luca Aversa was diagnosed with neuroblastoma eight years ago when he was only four months old.  As part of his treatment Luca underwent chemotherapy and needed surgery to remove a large tumour in his abdomen.  This required Luca to receive a significant number of blood transfusions.
