The Essex Dairies in downtown Essex has added a smart gift shop to its business. The store is open from six in the morning until midnight. Besides the gift trade, customers from near and far come to purchase fresh dairy products 365 days in the year. The above picture shows the Essex Dairies building on June 1, 1946 which was under the management of Mr. A. J. Ashton.

Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher has died. She was 87. Thatcher was Britain’s first woman prime minister held office from 1979 to 1990.

SHUQUALAK, Miss. – A strong spring storm that socked the Midwest with ice and heavy, wet snow made its way east, raking the South with tornadoes Thursday, with three deaths blamed on the rough weather and thousands of people without power.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn said Thursday one person died and several people were injured after a reported tornado struck Kemper County in the far-eastern part of the state.

Wheatley can be proud of its new hotel pictured on June 18, 1949, operated by Mr. and Mrs. D. C. White. The central portion is remodelled from an older building; the wings, sloping back in a shallow V-shape, are entirely modern. Each of the 12 rooms has an adjoining bath and the hotel incorporates many unique features which make it one of the most comfortable inns in the province. Pickerel and perch caught daily in Lake Erie provide the dining room with its speciality fish dinners.

The official opening ceremonies were held on May 11, 1958 at the new Holy Redeemer College. Here is a scene at Sunday’s ceremony at the seminary for Redemptorist priests on Cousineau Road, Sandwich West Township. On Saturday, James Charles Cardinal McGuigan said during chapel dedication services the college will send forth “holy and dedicated men to minister to the people.”
