From The Vault: Grace Hospital Nurses

The traditional parade of young nurses dressed in their immaculate uniforms was made Sunday, June 6, 1965 along University Avenue, from Grace hospital to the Salvation Army Citadel.

The nurses graduated Friday night at special ceremonies held at Cleary Auditorium.

Pictured are the new graduates along with the Salvation Army Band and hospital staff who joined in the parade.

Work is well under way on the new heating plant for Grace Hospital, which is a vital part of the hospital’s general improvement program, including a nurses’ residence.

Top view above is that of the excavation now well advanced on Oak Avenue on April 30, 1952.

The houses immediately behind the power shovel will be removed to make way for the new building.

The gathering was addressed by Windsor Mayor John Wheelton, Reeve Fred Cada of St. Clair Beach representing Warden Joseph Newman, and W.B. Lewis of the Ontario Hospital Services Commission. Reeve Cada is pictured above at the microphone.

The Rockettes opened their dance floor to hundreds of hopefuls who gathered at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, to try out for the famous dance troupe’s 2013 Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The show runs Nov. 8 through Dec. 30. In order to be considered for the Rockettes, dancers must be at least 18 years old, measure at a height between five feet six inches and five feet 10 1/2 inches without their heels on. The dancers must also be be proficient in numerous dance styles, including jazz, tap and ballet.

Fans who had been waiting in line since the wee hours joined some of country’s biggest stars Thursday, May 2, 2013, to pay their respects to George Jones at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. Jones died last week in the midst of a farewell tour that was to have wrapped up with an all-star salute in November in Nashville. He was 81.

A frantic phone call Monday, May 6, 2013, led police to a house near downtown Cleveland where Amanda Berry, Georgina “Gina” Dejesus and Michele Knight, who all vanished about a decade ago, were found, exhilarating law enforcement authorities, family members and friends who had longed to see them again.
