From the Vault: Cruikshank’s

The above cut is a facsimile of four modern dwellings for Dr. Cruickshank, located on the corner of Chatham Street and Victoria Avenue printed in The Evening Record on April 20, 1901. They are built of veneered brick. There is a large basement containing store rooms and a laundry and furnace room. On the first floor is a reception hall, parlor with handsome mantel, dining room with a fine china closet, kitchen is large, with a convenient pantry. All the rooms are well lighted. The main rooms are finished in oak. On the second story there are four bedrooms, bath with modern plumbing, and a large linen closet. Williams Bros. are the architects of the building, and they expect to complete it by June. (FILES/The Windsor Star)

Noah Paquette, 6, and his brother Nash, 4, paint a stud destined for their new home in Amherstburg. The house is being build by Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex, which kicked off it’s Stud-a-Thon fundraiser Wednesday at the Habitat ReStore. Businesses and individuals can purchase a stud for a $100 donation. Sponsors are welcome to decorate or write messages on the wooden 2 x 4, which will be used to help build the Paquette’s home. The Marracci Temple Band of Detroit led the parade of bands, marchers and drill teams that participated in the Emancipation parade Monday, Aug. 3, 1975 from Chatham Street to Jackson Park along Ouellette Avenue. The parade was just one of several highlights that included the crowning of Rhoda Baylis, 16, of Harrow as Miss Sepia.
